Climate Protection

On March 2, 2021, Radnor Township adopted a comprehensive climate plan, as presented by Practical Energy Solutions and the “Green Team”. It focuses on clean energy and conservation and the goals for the township include:
- 100% clean electricity by 2035
- 100% clean energy by 2050

In February 2019, the township endorsed the Sierra Club’s ‘Ready for 100’ commitment to 100% clean and renewable energy: Ready 100 - January 28, 2019.

Green Features of Clem Macrone Park – Rehabilitation & Master Plan Implementation Project/2017

Clem Macrone recently underwent a major renovation as the project blended a mix of new and improved amenities that both retain and capture active and passive features and incorporate sustainable features throughout the entire park. The park includes a riparian corridor along Valley Run, a tributary of Darby Creek, along its northern property line. Rehabilitation of the park utilized green infrastructure in the form of bioretention, bio-swales, and three rain gardens to improve drainage through the site and filter run-off from adjacent developments before it enters Valley Run. Improvements entailed the growth of native plant communities and increased bio-diversity. Earth disturbances were minimized during construction and protection was provided for the existing trees. The redirection and capturing of adjacent run-off allowed for more usable area of the park, therefore allowing the creation of a new trail system with a porous surface and enhancement of an existing boardwalk through a wetland teaching area in the stream buffer of Valley Run. Additional improvements further included rehabilitation, versus relocation, of the parking lot, tennis courts, and baseball field to minimize extensive grading and construction. The rain garden and wetland area located along Valley Run was enhanced and expanded. Lawn was limited to high use areas and native plant areas and no-mow grass zones have been further established in fringe and drainage areas to increase bio-diversity and wildlife habitat. Clem Macrone Park received the Department of Conservation and Natural Resource’s (DCNR) Annual Green Park Award in April of 2018.
