Approximately 6,900 owners of Radnor properties, which are connected to the public sewer system, are required to pay an annual sewer service charge (or rent) to Radnor Township. Sewer rent is not paid by mortgage companies.

Annual sewer rent revenues fund the maintenance of the township's sanitary sewer system, such as clearing clogged underground sewer pipes, replacing and upgrading older pipes, and for making rental payments to the Radnor-Haverford-Marple Sewer Authority, which coordinates the regional flow of sewage from neighboring municipalities.

Utility Bills (comprised of Sewer Rent and Stormwater Fee) are mailed April 1st to all property owners. Payment is due by May 31st.

Rates

The 2024 sewer rent rate is $12.62 per 1,000 gallons of water used by a property in calendar year 2023. The minimum annual sewer rent is $65. Properties with private well water are charged $1,262 per year unless a meter connected to the well documents more or less than 100,000 gallons of water used the prior year. Properties with on-site sewer systems are not subject to the sewer rent.

Illegal Connections

When storm water leaks into our sanitary sewer system, it flows through pipes with raw sewage, adding unnecessarily to the cost of processing. This in turn drives up the township's annual sewer rent for all property owners.

Illegal Dumping
In Radnor, water is infiltrating the sewer system through household sump pumps and downspouts connected to sewer pipes. These practices are illegal! The owners of such properties are advised to redirect or unhook such connections. Radnor property owners who are caught with illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system are subject to steep fines.

Deduct Meters

Adjustments can be made to individual sewer bills when separate (or deduct) meters document the amount of water that has been diverted from the public sewer system (to fill a swimming pool, for outdoor sprinkler system, etc.)

Township property owners with sprinkler systems, pools, wells, etc. are advised to install a deduct meter to track water usage on those systems. Deduct meters can be purchased at a hardware store or installed by a plumber.

Report Deduct Meter Readings
Property owners are responsible for reporting their deduct meter readings to the Township annually in order to be eligible for credit to be applied towards their current year's sewer rent bill. Deduct meter readings are due annually by March 1.
