Trash Containers

• Containers must be watertight with covers and made of rust resistant metal or plastic with not more than a 35 gallon capacity (50 pounds when full)
• Every homeowner is required to use a container
• No more than 150 pounds will be collected from any household at one time
• Residents who already own commercial containers on wheels must bag their refuse before placing it in the container
• It is suggested that each property owner identify his permanent container by painting his street number on the container

Trash Container Storage

• Containers may be placed near the side/rear house lines
• Dogs must be chained or confined away from containers otherwise trash or recyclables will not be collected

Preparation of Trash & Refuse

• All refuse must be drained and free from liquids before being placed in refuse containers
• Loose material must be in bags or tied in bundles
  All paint cans and extra trash (non household) must be placed at curb for pick up
• All paint cans must be dried up and placed in a cardboard box Call 610-688-5600 extension 156 to arrange for a paint can collection
• Paint will not be taken unless you call first
• All needles must be placed in a heavy duty plastic container such as laundry detergent bottles, with the lid tightly closed and marked needles on the container
• This container should be placed on top of your can in full view of your collector

Banned Items

The following items will not be accepted for trash collection:

• Televisions and Computer Monitors will not be collected
• Flammable liquids, asphalt, pathological wastes, animals or animal waste, construction, demolition and remodeling, or hazardous materials
• Dirt, commercial ashes, foundry sand, fly ash, cinders, sludge, gravel, brick, rocks, concrete, concrete products, steel or cardboard drums
• Refrigerators, stoves, dehumidifiers, water heaters, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, or any other large appliances
• Bed springs, box springs, metal beds, fencing or posts
• Motor vehicles or parts of motor vehicles
• Industrial refuse resulting from manufacturing processing operations
• Refuse from meat or food processing plant operations Sewage sludge
• Material which in the opinion of the Public Works Department is excessively wet
• Industrial and/or hazardous wastes as defined by the United States
• Department of Environmental Resources
• Refuse resulting from the repair, excavation, or construction of buildings, such as sand, earth, lumber, brick, stone, mortar, plaster, roofing materials, etc. shall be removed at the expense of the owner or the contractor doing the work. It will not be collected by the Township
• Bulk items, such as large appliances, furniture, and fencing. Please see Open Truck / Bulk Trash Collections for information on disposal of these items
• Hazardous materials may be disposed of at Delaware county's Household Hazardous Waste Collections Events, which are held throughout the year
• Televisions and Computer Monitors must be Recycled at an electronics recycling center or event - the Refuse Department cannot accept these items

Disposal Tips for Home Health Care Wastes

Home health care wastes primarily consist of “used sharps,” such as needles, syringes, lancets and other sharp objects, as well as soiled bandages, disposable sheets and gloves

To prevent injury, illness and pollution please follow some simple steps when disposing of these wastes in the trash:

1. Place all used sharps in an opaque puncture -resistant, hard plastic or metal container. An empty detergent bottle with a screw -on cap or an empty coffee can will do
2. Close the container with its original lid and secure with heavy duty tape
3. Place the tightly sealed container in a paper bag and discard it with the household trash
4. Place non -sharp home health care wastes in a doubled, securely fastened, opaque plastic trash bag before putting them in the garbage can with other wastes

Please Do Not Place It with Recyclables!

Recommended Treatment: Prior to disposal, disinfect used sharps with a solution of 1 teaspoon of bleach in 1/2 gallon of water.

Do:

• Place used sharps in an opaque, puncture -resistant container
• Seal lids on containers of sharps with heavy -duty tape
• Seal trash bags with tape or wire/plastic ties
• Label plastic jug or metal can "Do Not Recycle”
• Keep waste containers out of reach of children and animals

Don't:

• Place loose used sharps in the trash or toilet
• Label the containers as medical waste
• Clip needles with a pair of scissors Place sealed containers in with recyclables
